One man is dead and another is injured after they were hit by a freight train in Old Orchard Beach on Wednesday morning.
Police and emergency workers were called to the train platform on First Street at 10:51 a.m. where the two men had been hit by a train traveling north toward Scarborough, Old Orchard Beach police said in a news release.
One of the men was dead, the second was brought to Maine Medical Center and listed in critical condition, according to police. Two other men at the scene were not injured.
Police have not identified either of the victims.
Police said the men were sitting on the train platform before they were hit by the train and said alcohol is thought to have been a factor.
During the investigation, Union Avenue, Atlantic Avenue and Old Orchard Street were blocked by the train but have since reopened, police said.
