The Maine Warden Service is searching for a missing husband and wife from the Washington County town of Alexander who were last in contact with family on Saturday evening.
John Helmstadter, 82, and Pamela Helmstadter, 72, likely left their residence on Pine Tree Shore Road on Sunday or Monday on foot because vehicles are still there, according to Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti.
The couple’s 1-year-old black lab Lucy is also missing, but their other dog was found outside at their home, Latti said.
John is 5 feet, 10 inches tall with gray hair and brown eyes. Pamela is 5 feet, 3 inches, 120 pounds with gray hair and green eyes. It’s not known what they might be wearing.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was alerted about the missing couple Wednesday night, and since then, the Maine Warden Service, along with the sheriff’s office, Maine Forest Service and Maine Search and Rescue Dogs have been searching the area on foot, with dogs and with a warden service plane, Latti said.
The public is encouraged to call the Maine Warden Service at 207-973-3700 with any information.
