FALMOUTH – As part of its ongoing support of Maine arts, OceanView at Falmouth is proud to announce a new community partnership with Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ, the nonprofit organization that supports performances of one of the world’s most celebrated pipe organs which is in Portland’s Merrill Auditorium.
Through this new partnership, in addition to providing financial support, OceanView at Falmouth will host community music events featuring municipal organist James Kennerley and provide transportation to concerts for residents. While OceanView has supported Friends of the Kotzschmar through sponsorships for years, this new relationship takes that support one step farther, directly connecting residents to performances.
“Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ is an incredible organization that makes it possible for Mainers to enjoy this unique, world-class musical experience, and we’re thrilled to expand our support for the organization,” said Shireen Shahawy, director of sales and marketing for OceanView at Falmouth. “We know the arts are a high priority for so many residents of OceanView. When we support local arts organizations, we also look to find ways to bring those performances into our community. This partnership makes this treasured musical experience accessible in new ways.”
Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit founded in 1981 to support the organ, which is one of just two municipal organs in the country that has a municipal organist on staff. The organization hosts a series of programs and concerts throughout the year with a wide range of themes, including Spooktacular Songs and Storytime at Halloween, Christmas with Kennerley, and a Bach Birthday Bash.
“Formalizing our community partnership with OceanView reflects an added dimension of shared values and reciprocal support, allowing both organizations to learn from each other and better serve our community,” said Ashley O’Brien, executive director of Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ. “By creating a home for Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ within their community and providing access to Merrill Auditorium for their residents, OceanView at Falmouth enables us to discover new ways to share the wonders of this instrument throughout Maine.”
