In response to a letter in the BDN suggesting that we use ranked-choice voting to vote our conscience, I ask that we consider this plan may not work as intended. We may end up with an administration that has no regard for the people of Gaza, or now the people of Lebanon, in fact, no regard for minorities or people of lesser means.
In a race as close as this one, our first-choice vote should be for the candidate who will do the best job for all Americans, regardless of their race, religion, or personal beliefs.
Yes, what is going on in Gaza is heartbreaking and our current administration, the UN and other wealthy nations have demanded cease-fires, but none can make Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu honor a cease-fire, he is the one who chooses the current path for Israel. As for the weapons, if we stop sending weapons, we send a signal of carte blanche to terrorist communities.
The outcome of this election is largely in the hands of those of us who wish to protest at the ballot box, or not vote. Choosing second- or third-tier candidates or not voting is not the best choice in 2024 — we must consider the country over ourselves.
