Teanne Ewings, a senior running for Houlton/Greater Houlton Christian Academy took the top time at the high school cross country state meet held in Cumberland on Saturday.
Ewings finished with a time of 18:38.95, finishing with a time 10 seconds faster than both the Class A and Class B girls’ top finishers. Houlton/Greater Houlton Christian Academy competes in Class C.
Finishing second in the Class C girls event was Karen Higgins of Boothbay/Wiscasset, with a finishing time of 19:01.39.
Ewings’ teammate Natalie Johnson came in at 19:40.23, securing sixth place. Orono’s Clara White took fifth place with a time of 19:28.47, and was the second northern Maine finisher behind Ewings.
Houlton’s girls team took second place, scoring 60 points to Waynflete School’s 57.
Orono High School’s Ben Arsenault took the top place in the Class C boys race, finishing with a time of 16:54.46. In second was Pi Crosby of Waynflete School with a finishing time of 17:05.39.
In third, and the second northern Maine finisher in Class C, was Orono’s Owen Bean, who came in at 17:19.92.
Orono High School won the boys Class C race, with 32 points. In second was George Stevens Academy/Blue Hill Harbor School with 109.
In Class B, the Mount Desert Island girls team won the championship with a score of 41, just ahead of Freeport High School’s 53 points.
Freeport High School won the Class B boys competition, with 69 points to the 92 points awarded to second-place finishers Caribou High School.
Falmouth’s girls team took top place in the Class A competition, finishing with 61 points. Scarborough won the boy’s competition, with 69 points.
