Rumford police on Tuesday evening warned residents of an “emergency in progress” and told residents at Route 232 Rumford Corner to “lock doors and shelter in place.”
“Do not leave your house until further notice,” the post on Facebook said.
Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss confirmed that state police are assisting Rumford police and said the state police tactical team has been activated.
A dispatcher at the Oxford County Regional Communications Center told the Bangor Daily News she didn’t have time to talk saying, “we have an incident going on now.”
No additional information was immediately available.
