Kansas City Chiefs star Xavier Worthy and fiancée Tia Jones are getting ready to tie the knot, but their romance wasn’t love at first message.
“He DMed me before, but I didn’t respond,” Jones, 24, revealed during a Friday, November 1, appearance on “The Pregame Podcast With Tokyo and Sydnee.”
She continued, “’Cause, you know, it’s Instagram. Swipe in, swipe out.”
Although Jones didn’t think much of Worthy, 21, shooting his shot initially, things changed when she relocated to Texas, where the wide receiver was living at the time.
Chiefs Rookie Xavier Worthy and Fiancee Tia Jones’ Relationship Timeline
“Time went by, I moved to Texas to train with my coach,” the track and field athlete recalled. “He was going to UT [University of Texas] at the time, and we met at a restaurant. I saw him at a restaurant.”
Jones then recounted the pair’s serendipitous in-person meeting, which took place when she was running “so late” to a friend’s dinner at a steakhouse. While en route, two cars sped up “cutting in front of” her, and one of the drivers turned out to be Worthy.
Jones and her future fiancé pulled up to the eatery’s valet area at the same time, and while she initially planned to tell the driver “you need to slow down,” she forgot what she wanted to say when she saw Worthy and recognized him.
“[He gave me a look like], ‘I’ve been looking for you,’” Jones recalled.

From that point on, Worthy was “just a gentleman” and asked Jones out on a date.
“That’s why God had me late to that dinner,” Jones said. “Cause I met my man.”
The couple began posting photos together online earlier this year and announced their engagement in July.
“The Worthy’s ,” the NFL player captioned an Instagram video of his elaborate proposal, which took place on a beach in front of a heart-shaped arch made out of rose petals. The romantic scene also included giant letters spelling out “Marry Me” and a pathway of rose petals.
The same month Worthy and Jones got engaged, they shared that they’d become homeowners.
Everything the Chiefs Athletes Have Said About Meeting Taylor Swift
“Super blessed to be able to experience buying a home with the person you love!!” the duo wrote via Instagram. “Nothing more important than family and building a foundation!”
Jones has been by Worthy’s side throughout his ongoing debut NFL season. After tearing her ACL in February, the runner’s own athletic career has been on pause as she completes physical therapy.
Although Jones noted on “The Pregame Podcast” that the injury had resulted in “dark times” and “a lot” of crying “like a baby,” she said the silver lining is being able to support Worthy at his games.
“I’ve been able to be more hands on with him and be with him throughout his rookie season,” she said.
