Jodie Turner-Smith is sharing the secret to coparenting with her ex Joshua Jackson.
“You’ve got to just think about your kids,” the Bad Monkey actress, 38, told Entertainment Tonight in an interview published on Monday, November 11. “And when you’re parenting in the public eye, everything that you do – eventually, there’s a record of it. You don’t want your kids to read anything and think anything.”
Turner-Smith, who called motherhood “such a beautiful and wonderful thing,” added, “It’s just about — center the children and that’s all you can do. Nobody gets everything right but at least when you know you’re focused on the right thing, you know you’re gonna do your best.”
The Queen and Slim star and Jackson, 46, welcomed their daughter in April 2020. The former couple – who tied the knot after one year of dating in 2019 – were married for more than four years before Turner-Smith filed for divorce in 2023, citing irreconcilable differences, Us Weekly confirmed at the time.
Jodie Turner-Smith Shares Quote About Moms Prioritizing Their Happiness
Though Turner-Smith and the Dr. Odyssey star typically keep their family life out of the spotlight, this isn’t the first time either have made a comment about parenting in recent years.
Last month, Turner-Smith shared a rare glimpse into her life as a mom in an interview with Glamour UK.
“It’s an adjustment period for anyone when they split up with someone, because you’re used to being with your child all the time,” she explained. “But nobody hands you a manual. Everyone’s trying to figure it out. Each parent has a different life, and especially if the reason why you’re splitting up is because you have different lives, it’s only further complicated by how you’re going to coparent.”
Jackson, for his part, previously opened up about raising his daughter in an interview with People in 2022.
Jodie Turner-Smith Rejects Pressure to ‘Snap Back’ After Giving Birth
“The work [of being a parent] is constant because she’s constantly a new version of herself,” the Dawson’s Creek alum said at the time. “So I think [you have to be] open to the fact that you have to rediscover your child all the time. But the greatest piece of it right now is she’s so hyper-verbal, and she’s very, very opinionated. And I’m just enjoying the ability to be in that conversation with her.”
Shortly after Jackson and Turner-Smith called it quits, the Mighty Ducks star moved on with actress Lupita Nyong’o. The pair have since parted ways, Nyong’o, 41, confirmed in October.
At the time of Nyong’o and Jackson’s new romance, Turner-Smith had nothing but positive things to say about her ex happily moving on.
“Good for them,” she told The Cut in June. “We need happiness in order to peacefully coparent. I’m trying to get us to the Gwyneth [Paltrow] and Chris Martin level. I truly hope they’re happy and that it benefits us as a family.”
