Loan forgiveness for college students should not happen. When I attended college I paid for my education, not the federal government off the backs of the taxpayers. I attended college also for an education that would provide me a job afterwards.
Taking liberal arts for two years to figure out what you “want to be” is not cost effective. I have seen many young people with the advice of their school counselors taking “criminal justice.” This field, which is very diverse, does not guarantee a job.
Counselors need to look five to 10 years ahead of what the future job industry will be lacking. This way students are not spending two to four years getting an education with no job prospects. Loan forgiveness will only encourage financial irresponsibility.
