Formed in 2007 by guitarist and tres player Paul D’Alessio, Primo Cubano delivers the spirited music of Cuba with an appreciation for its rich cultural roots. D’Alessio first encountered Son music on a trip to Trinidad De Cuba, where he was deeply inspired by its power to move audiences and its influence on Latin styles worldwide. Today, Son remains a core influence on Salsa music, bringing together rural and urban Cuban traditions for a vibrant, danceable style that Primo Cubano has made its own.
The band features Paul D’Alessio on Tres Cubano and vocals, Marc Chillemi on trumpet, percussion, and vocals, Lenny Hatch on congas, bongo, and bell, Duane Edwards on upright bass, and Eric Winter on timbales, percussion, and vocals. Together, these talented musicians will bring the sounds of Cuba alive at Watts Hall, inviting audiences of all ages to join in the celebration.
