The top-seeded and undefeated high school football teams in Class B North and South rolled to victories in their respective regional title games Friday night.
In the North, Falmouth overpowered No. 3 Lawrence of Fairfield 35-7 at Cony High School’s field in Augusta. The Navigators improved to 10-0 on the season.
The South final saw Kennebunk play on its home field and pull away from Deering High School of Portland 35-14. Kennebunk improved to 10-0.
The outcomes set up an epic Class B state championship showdown at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
At Cony, Falmouth quarterback Tres Walker completed 11 of 16 passes for 144 yards and 3 touchdowns to spearhead the Navigators attack. Receivers Logan McVeigh, Gio Guerrette and Ben Robbins caught scoring passes for Falmouth. Joey Guerrette added a 76-yard interception return to ice it.
Lawrence got a 35-yard touchdown pass from Mike Hamlin to Preston Roy but it wasn’t enough. The Bulldogs finished 7-4.
At Kennebunk, the defending state champion home team broke open a 14-14 tie game by scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter. Brady Stone scored on a 1-yard run. Moose Keys scampered into the endzone from 36 yards out, and Austin West added a 21-yard TD run for Kennebunk.
Deering’s two scores came on TD runs of 3 and 4 yards by Zeke Dewever. The Rams finished the regular season at 8-2. Deering will play Portland in the traditional Thanksgiving game on Nov. 28.
