A 20-year-old Clinton man died in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 on Sunday afternoon.
Isaiah Mathieu was found dead at the scene of a crash near mile marker 134 in Benton at around 4:17 p.m., according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss. No other vehicles were involved in the crash in the northbound lane.
Officials believe that Mathieu was unable to take a turn in the roadway before his 2004 Chevy Trax left the right side of the road and struck a guardrail. The vehicle was seriously damaged when it came to rest in a ditch.
An initial investigation shows that Mathieu likely lost control of the vehicle due to high speed. There were no other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
