Flames spread quickly from a car fire to greenery off Route 202 on Tuesday.
The fire took an extensive combined effort from Greene firefighters and members of the Maine Forest Rangers to put out the flames, with firefighting helicopters flown over the area on Tuesday.
While few details are currently available, the flames from the vehicle fire spread throughout a nearby field and forest, leaving heavily-charred trees in its wake.
According to the forest ranger’s Facebook page, Rangers in the Saco River District have responded to more than 50 fires in November alone.
Fire danger remains moderate to high throughout most of the central and southern regions, with a “low” fire danger in the northernmost parts of Somerset, Piscataquis, Penobscot and Aroostook counties.
