Bangor police arrested a Hermon man after he allegedly shot another person in Bangor on Wednesday night.
Police responded to Franklin Street after 9 p.m. Wednesday following a report that a person had been shot and the suspect was leaving the scene, Bangor Police Department spokesperson Jason McAmbley said.
Police located the vehicle that the suspect, Todd Whitman, 37, was believed to be driving, but the driver refused to stop and led police on a short chase before officers ended their pursuit, according to McAmbley. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Hermon.
Police traced Whitman to a Hermon residence and saw him getting into a vehicle, then followed it, before discovering he was nearby on foot, McAmbley said.
Officers finally found Whitman on Davis Road in Bangor and took him into custody.
The shooting victim, who Whitman knew, was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover, according to McAmbley.
Whitman is being held at the Penobscot County Jail on charges of elevated aggravated assault, theft, eluding, refusing to submit, reckless conduct, driving to endanger and burglary of a motor vehicle.
