Sophia Bush is giving a tantalizing update on a potential One Tree Hill revival.
In August, it was reported that Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan, both 42, are developing a sequel series to the hit WB/CW drama, which ran for nine seasons from 2003 to 2012. The stars later confirmed the news via Instagram.
“It’s unfortunate when development news leaks early … that’s a bit of a bummer for us as we wanted to get it across the finish line and then have a party,” Bush told Access Hollywood in a Wednesday, December 4, interview, noting that the project is still very much in the development stage. “But I will say the process is really incredible. The fans have kept that show alive and they’ve asked for it for so long, and then the studio came to us about it.”
“I think 10 years ago, I would have said, ‘Not on your life.’ Now I realize the opportunity to have not just a comfort show, but kind of a home base matters to people,” she continued. “So beginning to figure out how we might tell these stories and reunite our whole ragtag bunch feels really, really amazing.”
‘One Tree Hill’ Cast: Where Are They Now?
Bush teased, “If it happens, I think you’ll be very pleased.”
Variety reported in August Bush, Burton Morgan and Danneel Ackles are executive-producing a sequel series for Netflix. Bush and Burton Morgan are also expected to reprise their respective roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer.
After the news broke, Bush and Burton Morgan confirmed the project via Instagram.
“What if you really can go back home?” the stars wrote in matching captions. “If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.”

They added, “There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you — the #OTHfam — have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where ‘everything’s better and everything’s safe.’”
Fellow One Tree Hill alum Chad Michael Murray — who appeared in the show’s first six seasons before departing alongside Burton Morgan — said last month that he has “no idea” if he’ll reprise his role as Lucas Scott in the continuation, but said that he hopes the reboot “comes together for the fans.”
