Demi Moore is keeping things in perspective amid her ex-husband Bruce Willis‘ ongoing dementia battle.
“Given the givens, he’s in a very stable place at the moment,” Moore, 62, shared in a Friday, December 6, interview with CNN. “And I’ve shared this before, but I really mean this so sincerely. It’s so important for anybody who’s dealing with this to really meet them where they’re at, and from that place, there is such loving and joy.”
Moore noted that watching a loved one struggle with the condition is “very difficult” and is “not what I would wish upon anyone.” She added: “There is great loss, but there is also great beauty and gifts that can come from it.”
Moore and Willis, 69, were married from 1987 to 2000, during which they welcomed three daughters — Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 30. Willis went on to wed Emma Heming Willis in 2009, and the couple share daughters Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10.
Demi Moore Sends Message to Families Affected by Dementia
In March 2022, the actor’s family announced Willis was walking away from the entertainment industry after being diagnosed with aphasia. “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” Moore, Heming Willis, 46, and their children wrote in a joint Instagram statement at the time. “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”
The message continued: “This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”
Nearly one year later, Moore revealed that her ex’s aphasia developed into frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a common form of dementia. “As a family, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for the outpouring of love and compassion for Bruce over the past ten months,” Moore wrote via Instagram in February 2023. “Your generosity of spirit has been overwhelming, and we are tremendously grateful for it. For your kindness, and because we know you love Bruce as much as we do, we wanted to give you an update.”
Moore has continued to support her ex-husband through his health struggles, teaming up with Heming Willis and their kids to wish Willis a Happy Father’s Day earlier this year. “Happy Father’s Day to our favorite girl dad. We love you, BW!” they captioned a joint Instagram slideshow featuring sweet photos of Willis and his children over the years.

The Substance star shared a similar health update about Willis at the 2024 Hamptons International Film Festival in October, sharing, “The disease is what the disease is. And I think you have to be in real deep acceptance of what that is. But for where he’s at, he is stable.”
She continued: “What I always encourage is to just meet them where they’re at. When you’re holding on to what was, I think it’s a losing game. But when you show up to meet them where they’re at, there is great beauty and sweetness.”
