Selena Gomez Cries Amid 9-Minute Standing Ovation at Cannes Film Festival
Gomez earned her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy, for OMITB in 2023 and scored another nod in the category the following year.
Gomez’s 2025 nomination for Emilia Pérez comes nearly seven months after she won Best Actress alongside costars Saldaña, 46, Gascón and Adriana Paz at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in May. “Thank you SO much [Cannes Film Festival] and the whole board,” she wrote via her Instagram Story at the time.
In a recent TikTok comment, Gomez spoke out after Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez criticized her Spanish speaking in Emilia Pérez. “I feel like she doesn’t know what she’s saying,” he said during a podcast interview. “If she doesn’t know what she’s saying, she can’t give her acting any nuance.”
Gomez reacted to his critiques, writing, “I understand where you are coming from. I’m sorry. I did the best I could with the time I was given.”
She went on to add: “Doesn’t take away from how much work and heart I put into this movie.”
The 2025 Golden Globes will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET.
