SOUTH PORTLAND — Aiming to build upon its successful and popular holiday contribution program last year, Town & Country Federal Credit Union launched its second annual “12 Days of Local Giving” initiative by volunteering and packing more than 200 bags of food for families during the holidays and presenting a $2,500 contribution to The Locker Project. In addition to presenting the contribution, which will purchase more than 500 additional bags of food for families with children in school in Portland, South Portland, and Westbrook, the credit union also announced the full list of the 12 local non-profit organizations it will make a contribution to between Dec. 5 and Dec. 20. Through its 2024 “12 Days of Local Giving”, the credit union will contribute a total of $11,000 to 12 different non-profits that serve Cumberland and York County.
The 12 non-profits who will receive a contribution as well as some volunteer opportunities are:
• The Locker Project
• NAMI Maine
• Maine Needs
• Portland Trails
• Furniture Friends
• Wayside Food Program
• Wreaths Across America – Maine
• Biddeford Food Pantry
• Prosperity ME
• Saco Food Pantry
• Portland Recovery Community Center
• Through These Doors
“Our commitment to making a difference in the local communities we serve is never ending but it is especially important at the holidays. This is the second year of our ’12 Days of Local Giving’ initiative and we were able to increase our contribution total over last year which is also gratifying. For the initiative, we have selected a range of non-profits who provide a varied array of services to the people and communities in Cumberland and York County. In addition to making a financial contribution, we are also highlighting each organization on our social media channels to raise awareness and encourage additional gifts. ‘Local Helping Local’ is who we are and what we do, and this holiday initiative only reinforces the fact that helping our community goes well beyond financial services,” stated Jon Paradise, SVP of Communications, marketing and community outreach at Town & Country.
Kathryn Sargent, executive director of the Locker Project, praised the generous spirit of Town & Country and its passion for helping the community. “The ongoing need for food assistance among families with children in Greater Portland is significant and rising. The contribution from Town & Country comes at a time of year that is especially challenging for families and challenging for us to have the funding available to keep up with the need. We appreciate Town & Country continuing to support us year after year not only through volunteering but also with a generous financial contribution.”
Through Dec. 20, the credit union will be presenting checks to the 11 other non-profits selected to receive contributions as part of the “12 Days of Local Giving” initiative.
