A lane of Broadway in Bangor will be closed Wednesday for ongoing Interstate 95 road work.
A southbound lane of Broadway will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and again during that time on Friday, according to the city of Bangor.
That will affect traffic heading into downtown.
The city advised drivers to give themselves extra time during their commute and to go slowly. Drivers should heed signs and message boards advising them of the need to merge.
The closure will allow work to proceed on an abutment for I-95.
Those are the latest closures to accommodate ongoing interstate bridge work over I-95. That required closure of Broadway over several nights in June and July.
It’s the latest step toward the eventual replacement of the aging bridge carrying I-95 traffic over Broadway. The 152-foot steel girder bridge, built in 1960, is crossed about 50,000 times daily and is in “poor condition,” transportation officials have told the Bangor Daily News.
In recent years other I-95 bridges in Bangor have been replaced, including the Ohio Street bridge in 2020 and the Union Street bridge in 2016.
