A driver has died after crashing a vehicle Tuesday night while allegedly trying to evade police, according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
Kaleb Halsey, 20, of Bowdoinham died as a result of his injuries Wednesday morning, following the crash on Route 128, also known as River Road.
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office reported that a deputy attempted to pull Halsey over around 10 p.m., after he was allegedly speeding and operating erratically as he traveled south on Route 128 in Woolwich. But Halsey allegedly accelerated, passed a vehicle that had pulled over and lost control of the 2005 Hyundai Sonata he was driving.
Halsey’s vehicle then crashed into a granite fence post, continued into a ditch and hit a telephone pole, the sheriff’s office said. Halsey was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
