Suits alum Gabriel Macht no longer lives in the United States — but he’s not sharing many more details.

“I don’t tell anybody where I live because I like to keep that under wraps,” Macht, 53, told People in an interview published on Monday, January 27. “I got out of town and we’re exploring the world.”

The actor noted that he took a “long break” from the acting world to travel the world with his family. When the Covid pandemic hit in 2020, Macht and his wife, Jacinda Barrett, were “stuck” in New York City. (The couple share two kids: Satine, 17, and Luca, 10.)

“Right before Covid, we wanted to take the kids out of school and homeschool them,” he explained, adding that Manhattan “just wasn’t doing it for us” anymore.

‘Suits LA’ Trailer Teases Return of Harvey Specter

“We decided to explore the world, so we left,” Macht continued.

Macht played the role of Harvey Specter on Suits from 2011 to 2019. The show was filmed in Toronto, so the actor had already spent a lot of time out of the U.S.

“I grew up in L.A. and I lived in New York for many, many years,” Macht told People on Monday. “Half of my life on the East Coast, half of my life on the West Coast.”

While Harvey has been off screen for more than five years, Macht is getting ready to put the character’s (very expensive) loafers back on for the forthcoming spinoff series Suits: LA.

A Guide to the Most Star-Studded Celeb Appearances on NBC’s ‘Suits LA’

Macht admitted that, initially, he “had very little interest” in returning to his acting career. However, briefly reprising the role of Harvey made “sense” for him and his family. Macht teased that he’ll be able to “sort of pass the baton” to the new cast as they embark on this journey.

In November 2024, Macht offered a first look at the Suits: LA version of Harvey with an Instagram video.

“When an old friend is in need…it’s time to take care of things and make those very ‘things’ right,” he captioned the clip.

Macht’s return as Harvey was not shown in the first trailer, which was released earlier this month, but his appearance was teased in a photo with Stephen Amell’s character, Ted Black. Amell referred to him as “Harvey from the old days” in the promo, hinting that the duo have some sort of past.

Suits: LA stars Amell alongside Bryan Greenberg, Josh McDermitt and Lex Scott Davis and will premiere on NBC Sunday, February 23, at 9 p.m. ET.
